Engr 1201:  Introduction to Engineering

Please note:  The “Final Exam” for this class is a comprehensive project and in-class presentation.  The project is due on Wednesday, July 1st.  Class presentations will be done on this date as well.  If you will not be able to attend class on Wednesday, July 1, please let me know immediately to avoid failing the course.

Objectives

At the end of this course, students should be able to answer the questions:

  • What are the different branches of engineering, and which one(s) are the most appealing to me?
  • What does an engineer do?
  • How can I be a successful engineering student and ultimately a successful engineer?
  • What kind of technical work can I expect to do as an engineer?

And most importantly,

  • Do I really want to be an engineer?

The course is divided into five weeks, each focusing on a specific area:

Week 1: Introduction and Essential Skills
Week 2: Engineering in College and at Work
Week 3: Problem Solving and Engineering Design
Week 4: Engineering Math and Lab Work
Week 5: Oral Communication Skills and Engineering Ethics

In the case that Blackboard breaks down, all homework assignments and projects can be accessed here.  Click the Daily Assignments and Projects links above to access those materials.  Even if Blackboard isn't working, you are still responsible to turn in all assignments and projects on time!
